![]() This type of distortion “folds” the edges of our waveform, adding some harmonics but also weakening a bit the low end. I recommend some FM and to play carefully with Wavefolding. There’s no need to be precise, the goal here is to add some bite to the sound. ![]() Here we can modify and enrich the spectrum with Frequency Modulation, Phase Distortion, and Wavefolding. The last adjustment is in the modulation section (red rectangle). In this way, we can create a denser sound. We can still enrich our first sound with Unison and with Modulation/Distortions.įirst, in the Unison section (yellow rectangle) let’s set four voices and raise the Detune to taste. We chose the wavetable engine for the high layer because of the possibility to create a unique timbre in the higher register, thanks to the high number of wavetables that the synth offers and to the modulation possibilities. This gritty, FM wavetable is going to be our high, fast layer, so we needed to raise its pitch. Turn the Coarse knob, in the Tune section, up by 12 semitones (blue square in the picture), and set the Wavetable Position knob at almost 11 o’clock (green square). Choose the Wavetable for Engine 1, and select the FM Sync wavetable from the Transform folder by clicking on the wavetable name, right under the engine type selector. ![]() Let’s initialize the preset by clicking on New Preset in the Pigments menu (higher left corner of the interface). Keep in mind that if you’d like to refresh a bit of wavetable synthesis, pulses, or Pigments’interface, you can read the previous installments before starting this new adventure. ![]() First, we are going to set the engines and the oscillators, then we are going to assign the modulations, and then we’re going to play with the FX. ![]()
